MasterChef: the head of Lenôtre schools Philippe Gobet gives his impressions

Philippe Gobet is the director of the Lenôtre Schools, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, author of the book of receipts "The sweets of childhood", and professor of the show's nominees MasterChef. Meet.

This is already the fourth premium of Master Chef. What are your first impressions ?

"The audience is very good, which shows that people are still asking for programs around the cooked and we, chiefs, appreciate that. Cooking takes his place in the houses. Then, it is good to renew a little. It was helpful to make a more refined cast this year as viewers want to see a good level of skill. The candidates of the season 4 have a homogeneous level. They have progressed together. Although some have stood out from the start! "

We are curious. Do you have favorites?
"I meet them every Sunday for three months when they come to Pavillon Lenôtre (NDRL: located on the Champs Elysees in Paris). During the first classes, I observe them and I assess their knowledge and their mistakes. they like them with my students from the school.I come to supplement what they learn in master class and we also go back to basics (cooking, cutting products ...) .I also insist on pastry. often their weak point, then in the group, I really appreciated Adrien, he represents the cooked with friends, but also Marc and Séverine. They are natural leaders who are attentive and passionate. Master Chef opens their eyes to the difficulty of cooking. We give them a passport to continue in that direction but they have to do the rest. "

Precisely, after four seasons, what is your view on this adventure?
"Satisfied of course, my goal is for candidates to learn cooked but also understand it. When they arrive, they are fiery. When they leave, they are organized and posed. To become a chef, you need years of experience. I advise them all to pass a CAP. Master Chef is just the beginning. Look at Simon (season 3) who opens a second restaurant in Toulouse, Anne (winner of season 1), who is doing well with his hostel in Montauban. Ludovic (winner of season 3) also impressed me. You have to know how to listen to good advice and especially not to go headlong. That's what I teach at Lenôtre School. Some students have seen their grandmother cook and want to redo the dishes of their childhood but they also want to reproduce the receipts great chefs. MasterChef, like other programs of cookedput the people behind the stoves. It is a very good thing."
