All about herniated disc

Herniated disc is a pathology that affects the lumbar area : consequence of the deterioration of the intervertebral disk... In general, the first symptom of a herniated disc is sciatica: the disc supports the pressures of the spine, and will weaken, crack, or even break.

The pain is due to the tension in the lower back. Every effort, even the most innocuous, will increase the pain : abdominal pressure, coughing, sneezing ... The wear of the disc is natural and occurs from 35 years especially.

The pain can be very disabling and very intense.
The hernia is manifested by pain intense in the lumbar region. The pain then spreads brutally, then spreads along the leg. The hernia especially affects overweight people or during a sudden and inappropriate movement.

At first, to treat it, medications are administered (anti-inflammatory or morphine), osteopathic care can relieve momentarily. This treatment is followed by a temporary immobilization, lying down with, possibly, plaster cast lombostat. In case of complications, paralysis type, surgery may be necessary.

People most at risk of herniated discs are those who have a job requiring lifting loads, pregnant women: if they have a bad posture, this is where the accident occurs. But disc herniation can also affect athletes or people who are too sedentary.
It is necessary to practice exercises to maintain the dorsal musculature and the abdominals in order to prevent the lumbar problems as much as possible.

Our advice
Sometimes, pain lumbar sponges go untreated in some people ... If the pain do not pass and you remain immobilized, it is necessary to consult.
