What is ARS?
At the start of each school year, the School Return Allowance (ARS) is paid to households below a maximum annual income. Its amount varies according to the number of
children by family and their age. It is intended to help
parents with the lowest incomes (a taxable income of less than 23,000 euros for a family of one
child, at 28,554 euros for two
children) to buy essential school supplies for schoolchildren from 6 to 18 years old.
What's new in September 2012?
The Caisse d'Allocations Familiales (CAF) announced that back-to-school allowances will be increased by 25% at the start of the school year, or an average of 112 euros per household.
So far the aid concerned 2.8 million households and amounted to 300 euros on average. In concrete terms, the amount of the premium must pass:
- from 284.97 euros to 356.20 euros for
children from 6 to 10 years
- from 300.06 euros to 375.85 euros for
children from 11 to 14 years
- from EUR 311.11 to EUR 388.87 for
children from 15 to 18 years old.
How to get this allowance?
If you are already a beneficiary, no further steps are necessary if your
children are between 6 and 16 years old. You simply have to report your income to your tax department. For the
children from 16 to 18 years, you must send proof of schooling for the new year.
If you are not yet a beneficiary, simply make a "declaration of the situation of family benefits and housing" and a "declaration of resources" with your CAF or MSA (Mutualité sociale agricole). Printouts can be requested from CAF or MSA or downloaded from the Internet.
This year, the allowance will be paid on August 20, according to the Minister of Education, Vincent Peillon.
How to put this aid to advantage? - Buy school supplies such as satchels, notebooks, required books, pens. These supplies would be
more and more expensive According to François Hollande, who has made the increase of the allowance Rentrée Scolar, a campaign promise.
-Pay the canteen. Marisol Touraine, Minister of Social Affairs, believes that many
children from the most modest households do not
could not eat at lunch time ».
- Once these conditions are met, you can use the few remaining funds to please your
child, or make you happy, after all!
