Balenciaga: Alexander Wang new Artistic Director
New change in the very closed world of fashion. A few days after the departure of Nicolas Ghesquière the friend of the stars and talented creator who has enriched the spirit and heritage of the house for 15 years, the PPR group has found shoe to his feet. Whilst we murmured names like Proenza Schouler or Christopher Kane it's Alexander Wang who has just been appointed as the new Artistic Director.
"I am extremely honored to take on these new roles within a brand and a House for which I have great admiration and respect" said Alexander Wang. Of American origin and taïwannaise, the young man of 28 years grew up in San Francisco. Indefatigable and ambitious, he launched his first women's parade at the age of 19 while still a student at the famous New York fashion school Parson's School of Design. Her simple, clean and easy-to-wear style seduced American Vogue director Anna Wintour. After a career start with Derek Lam and Marc Jacobs, the young man decided in 2007, to launch his own brand and released a second line two years later, T by Alexander Wang dedicated to T-shirts. Faced with the success of his collections, Alexander Wang will continue to operate within its own brand, alongside its new role within the company Balenciaga.
This young talent who has more than one trick in his bag, will undoubtedly bring its modernity and its cosmopolitan and unique vision in a house that will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
