Coaching: efficiency or fashion effect?

If there is one word that you have not been able to pass by, it is the term coaching. More than a word, it's a real trend that is no longer confined to people. The goal: to work on the gaps and turn them into strengths! The coach will try to find you the soul sister, solve your problems of couple, make you stop smoking, drinking ... The phenomenon spares no area.

Coaching or management?

The question needs to be asked. As Roland Gori, author of Empire coaches published in 2006 by Albin Michel, the jargon used by coaches is above all managerial. The human being manages his relations with others as if he were an entrepreneur facing a client. The coaching is intended to lead to "results", uses excessively the terms "potential", "resources to exploit". The key words are often competitiveness and performance.

Two terms that are widely found in the professional field, the world of business. Thus, the shy person will operate as a boss in front of a client: he will seek to convince the Other (the desired woman) to bring him, little by little, to sign the contract (the union).

A growing success

Impossible not to cross the word coaching flipping through a magazine or the Internet. No doubt, the phenomenon is growing. "Before, have a teacher of sport at home to keep fit or to lose weight was reserved for the stars. Today, everyone can enjoy! Prices are more accessible ", explains Marie, employed in a company of coaching.

If you are tempted, know that you can benefit from a tax credit of 50%. Ask before you opt for a formula. If the coach "physical" does not tempt you, you can also opt for the coach by phone. In 30 minutes, the coach, reachable at any time, will take care of relieving your ills, whether personal or professional. He will accompany you in making a decision or making a difficult choice. Cost of this virtual boost: about 50? Or more.

Real utility or business?

The coaching is not only followers. Some see it as a good vein to exploit and point fingers to poorly trained coaches, having no knowledge of psychology and not always having the diploma of their specialty.

In addition, most coaches come from business schools, marketing or communication. They are in no way psychotherapists. No legislation regulates the profession.

For Roland Gori, we must be wary of the phenomenon that tends to exploit a small gap in large handicap requiring a coach. Like all modes, anchored or not in society, they can give rise to abuses.

Martine, 33, tells us: "When I first became a mother, I asked myself a lot of questions about how I was going to educate my child. Like many moms, I wanted to be the perfect mother! While searching the net, I found an ad extolling the merits of coaching parental. I opted for a few hours of sitting by phone. Finally, the coach only recited passages of books on the subject, and did not really help me! The price was high, the conversation took a long time to start ... And I did not know who was really on the line. Was the coach a pro or not? " she continues.

To avoid these hazards, do not hesitate to ask questions to the coach. Ask him about his career, school or training, ask for details about the content of the sessions, the budget requested. Make sure the coach has psychosociological and technical skills. Also make the difference between a simple need to share your fears and the real need for specific help in a field.
