First glasses: major issues for children

10% of children under 5 suffer from one or more visual anomalies, says the National Association for the Improvement of Sight (ASNAV). And to add: correcting their vision before the age of 1 year, could even prevent 40,000 children, each year, become visually impaired. This is to say the importance of eye exams for toddlers.

The vision has this specific that it is not, at the birth, of a mature sense. It is during the first four years of the child that it is built. At the same time, certain disorders are reversible if they are treated in time. In the case of strabismus, for example, the child may gradually lose the use of an eye: but if, before the age of two, he receives a correction or appropriate treatment, he may recover normal vision, says ASNAV.

Corrections, via the port of glasses, will be punctual or durable. Sometimes, sessions with an orthoptist are prescribed, to promote better coordination of the eyes. In some situations, parents cooperate in treatment, when caches are to be applied at one or more times of the day, to work the eye that becomes "lazy".

When entering the CP, have your child's eyesight checked if he has trouble learning to read. Even slight, a defect can greatly disrupt his schooling. Once past the course of the first years, do not relax your vigilance!
