I tested the Gyrotonic, the sport special flexibility

What's this : Imagined by Julien Horvath, former dancer and yoga enthusiast, the Gyrotonic is practiced on a machine like no other combining straps, weights and pulleys. It allows to make circular movements in three dimensions coordinated with the breathing. This method makes it possible to work the deep muscles, to lengthen them and thus to gain flexibility, but also to build muscles, the resistance work with the straps being very effective at the reinforcement level.

The session : I arrive at the Uma Center for my initiation session and install myself on the machine. This first session of initiation is essential to define its rhythm and its future program, the machine and the method adapting to each one for exercises really personalized.

I start by working the legs, lying down and feet strung on the straps. Flex or tense foot, I have to make rotations first with both legs together, then one leg after another. Simple in appearance but the exercise is actually working strength, since we must fight against the resistance of straps, coordination - my weak point, I always tend to forget what my left foot when I'm busy of law -, endurance but also breathing, which must be synchronized with our movements. All while thinking constantly to lengthen the body and the muscles. I need some time to successfully integrate all these parameters.

Before working the abs and then the arms with the straps slipped on the wrists, I move to sit to work the back and the pelvis by turning the pulleys with the arms, while keeping the spine well elongated. An exercise that proves to be the perfect reeducation to fight against my bad habit of always slouching when I sit down. I discover little by little that the different movements not only allow to work and strengthen the muscles, they correct our posture, play on our balance, on how we hold and evolve in space. They not only lengthen the body and improve our flexibility, but ultimately also make it more graceful.
