The art of celibacy

"And you live alone?" This is the question that was often asked, too often, to the novelist Anne de Bartillat. Logically, it is also the title of his book originally published in 2002 by Editions Albin Michel, which has just been re-edited by Editions de la Seine.
Pardon the illustrator of the cover but before opening the book, the graphics made me fear the worst. Colors and style worthy of a French "Bridget Jones" ... And I will certainly make enemies, but I could not read more than 20 pages of the misfortunes of the friendly English. Too many clichés, cigarettes and headaches. But leave what made me yawn to return to what makes me smile, the book ofAnne de Bartillat.
At the end of the first page, I knew it was going to be a big friend, this book. The slices of life of this single parent mother are funny, and above all, terribly endearing. This mother tells us some stages of her life with her two daughters, from their childhood to 18 years of the eldest. The first novel, which usually writes books for the little ones, shines with its sincerity. With a mine of innocuous little phrases, but just so, (like "Why does happiness always make a little sad?"), And you live alone? is a success. We want to become the best friend of the narrator as her thoughts are close to our daily joys and anxieties, whether we are mom, single or in a relationship.
Tasty like a Tagada strawberry and nostalgic like a dusty plush, this delicious book plunges us into the sweet memory of a childhood too quickly passed.
