Origin
The eldest son of the king of Domnonée (North Brittany), Saint Judicaël refused the crown on the death of his father Judhael around 605 and retired to the monastery of Gael. He had to ascend to the throne of his father when his brother (Saint Josse) declined the same honor. Judicael then became King of the Britons and ruled the kingdom with authority and wisdom for nearly twenty years. He married around 630 and died in 650. Thereafter first name has been regularly awarded in Breton families and is still appreciated today in the hexagon.
