If we go back in time, Saint Enguerrand was a bishop of Metz in 768. He remained famous for being close collaborator of Charlemagne and having realized one of the first revisions of the Bible. He died in 791. Then we find Enguerrand de Marigny who was the king's minister Philipe IV le Bel. However, it is thanks to Maurice Druon's saga of the Accursed Kings, a historical novel in seven volumes published between 1955 and 1977 that first name has been rediscovered. Enguerrand was often awarded in families of the French nobility.
