The whole of France is asking for more doctors

Not enough of doctors in some cities, too little medical help in small villages ... The French say stop. According to a survey for the Ciss, a collective of 27 patient associations, 96% of French people are in favor of training more than doctors to combat the lack of specialists in certain regions.

Indeed, some doctors are forced to travel hundreds of kilometers in the week to take care of several villages, because of the lack of health professionals. Today, no medical student wants to practice in the countryside deserted by the medical profession.

Drastic measures

In fact, 71% of those polled by the survey are "for" doctors to settle in this type of region where the lack is felt.

Regarding patients' rights, 80% of French people think that the computerization of health care means better care for patients. 68% of respondents also believe that they must agree to the computer processing of data concerning their health.

87% of French people think that doctors provide the information, care and treatment appropriate to their state of health, and 87% believe that doctors take into account their expectations regarding requests for care and treatment.

Knowledgeable patients

And on the quality of information, a rather encouraging figure: 80% of French patients say they are well informed about the quality of care they receive from a doctor62% feel well informed about the actions to take in case of problems following an act of care, hospital or doctor. Finally, 96% of respondents say that they have never been refused care for financial reasons.

This information was collected on February 6 and 7, 2009, by telephone, from 1 052 people, a representative sample of the French population aged 15 and over.
