This winter I warm up with a bath with plants

The bath in the rules of the art

A bath is taken at about 37 °. Even if it's cold, avoid taking it too hot which could burn you, however, after a few minutes, add water to compensate for the loss of temperature if your body was really cold.

The ideal is not to stay more than 20 minutes and to have washed before, taking a shower. Indeed, if you wash in the bath and then stay there, you will soak in soap and dirt. This is especially true when you pour a product to bring to your skin beneficial components. If you wash at the end, you will remove the particles deposited on the surface of the skin, like the film of oil that can leave some care.

Choose your product

There are relaxing foam baths with pleasant foam, but they are rarely concentrated in active ingredients. The "care" baths are more "serious" products, which do not always foam, especially when they contain essential oils.
The plant baths can take advantage of the virtues of a plant or complex with the essential oil that is drawn, usually mixed in a formula based on oil (sweet almond for example). They can be concentrated, up to 45%essential oils active, as in Puressentiel. They become very interesting because in topical care (to apply pure on the skin), the maximum percentage ofessential oils Authorized is lower because at this concentration, they can irritate the skin. But diluted in the bath, they are effective and safe!

The word of the specialist

Dominique Castex, Head of Training at Kneipp:

1 ° What are the benefits of a bath?
In relation to the shower that is stimulating, bathing is a process of relaxation of body and mind that leads to falling asleep. It is therefore rather advice in the evening but depending on what you put in it can become tonic. If it contains energizing assets, it will take rather in the morning and not too hot but it can also be considered before a party to make the transition with the office and cumulate a moment of relaxation and tone chaining on a fresh shower to the end.

2. What advantage does it offer to plants?
"A bubble bath or scented bath will bring relaxation thanks to the effect of hot water, but not thanks to the extracts it contains. Moreover, they are rather "washing" baths. The extracts of plants with essential oils have an effect according to the virtues of the plants.

3 ° Do plant extracts enter the skin?
The activation of the circulation and the heat that dilates the blood capillaries allows the essential oils better penetrate dermally, in addition to breathing the aromas of essential oils which are also absorbed by nasal passages. These baths combine aromatherapy and skin penetration. Even if the molecules have penetrated, we advise not to wash after but rather before. But it's mainly because our philosophy is to offer therapeutic baths, not baths. Once in the system, the essential oils stay there, even if you wash yourself.

4. What are their main virtues?
The rosemary bath is a booster, it is stimulating and designed for a tired body. The bergamot bath is an intense relaxant, at Kneipp it is offered with poppy and hemp, especially for a generous fragrance. In the classics, the linden is intended for the big stressed ones, with the agitated chronic that it will relax, while the lavender is rather destined to restore the equilibrium when one has worries. Then the famous eucalyptus that cleanses the airways deep. A last very nice is warming ginger, it's really the bath of winter par excellence!

5 ° What is the correct dosage of product?
It is necessary to respect what is indicated on the packaging because the products are generally very well dosed and to put too much, even if it is without danger, will not have more interest while to put too little to save it will not allow the body to benefit from its virtues.

6 ° What a difference between plant extracts and essential oils ?
We talk about a bath with plants, but the active molecules are present only in the essential oils. They are drawn from the barks, flowers of the plant and concentrate the active while in a bath, extracts will not be absorbed but will just be used to perfume.
For example, an infusion of thyme or chamomile that would be poured into the bath alone would have no effect. Indeed, it is necessary that the product penetrates, and for that at the level of plants, it takes alcohol. But we do not put alcohol in baths, based on oil. On the other hand, essential oilsthey enter (and they are the only ones) without any support to transport them. In fact we should say "bath with essential oils", and not bath with plants.
