For 24% of French people, it is important to keep virginity "until we're really in love," according to a poll by CSA for "Life". Nearly six in ten (59%) think it is not important to keep virginity, while 7% of the French consider it necessary to keep virginity until marriage. Among Catholics, this figure is 13%, and 54% think it is not important to keep virginity.
The French place a lot of importance on pleasure in the relationship. 77% of them think that it is an indispensable or very important element of their love life, and only 22% see pleasure as a secondary element.
Finally, 84% of French people consider that loyalty is essential or very important in a coupleand only 4% make it a secondary principle.
The survey was conducted by telephone on June 13 and 14, 2007 of 1,001 people aged 18 and over and representative of the French population.
