Children's view: have the eye!

Watching a painting or learning to read requires attention at a child and some effort. But if he suffers from a problem of unseen sight, his integration and even more his learning to read will penalize him.

What are the warning signs of a visual problem?
- He blinks frequently.
- He frowns.
- He writes or looks at a book with his nose stuck on it.
- He complains of headaches.
- In class, he is in the moon and does not seem interested in the class.
- He confuses certain letters.
- It may be sensitive to too bright light.

When should you check your eyesight child ?
In France, the rules of maternal and child health require three compulsory visits of the young child comprising: a brief examination of sight at 8th day, 9 months and 2 years.
But it is recommended that parents be vigilant throughout the growth of thechild and do not hesitate to consult an ophthalmologist if in doubt.

The stages of development of sight at homechild :
- at 1 month *, the infant sees up to 50 cm, he begins to follow the look but the coordination is still very imperfect.
at 3 months, the first reflexes of convergence appear.
- at 4 and a half months, baby is able to follow the eyes of an object in motion, he is already aware of the relief and distances.
- at 6 months, he still does not see perfectly, he has 1 to 2 tenths of acuity only.
- At 18 months, his visual functions are almost those of an adult, but he differs badly contrasts.
- from 3 to 6 years, thechild gradually acquires his visual faculties. His visual system will evolve throughout his life.
