Birth of a myth
Why named it Kelly? In 1956, the bag becomes the best-seller of the brand Hermes. The wife of Prince Rainier, Grace Kelly, is photographed with the famous bag. The magazine Life publishes this image that goes around the world. Always accompanied by his bag during official outings, Grace Kelly becomes by chance a charming ambassador for Hermes who decides to pay homage to him by giving him his name.
In 2007, Hermes has created a unique piece with the effigy of Princess Grace for the exhibition Years of Grace Kelly at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. The bag with the face of Grace Kelly Printed on the canvas is auctioned for Princess Stephanie of Monaco's AIDS Foundation.
