Stress in children: is there good and bad stress?

Sylvie Sarzaud, former professor of schools and currently sophrologist in Morbihan, wrote a book "I help my child to overcome stress" (Editions Eyrolles). She agreed to answer this question.

I have often heard of good and bad stress. What do you think ?


Indeed, stress is useful: without it, living species would not survive because they can not adapt to their living conditions. It's the stress that has allowed man to evolve, to invent, to create ...
On the other hand, it becomes negative when the tension exerted is not proportional to needs, when it is poorly targeted, or when it continues to be exercised when the need has disappeared.

Let's take an example: your teenager pass the tray in a few days ... The stress is useful if it gives him the energy to get up earlier in the morning to revise (good answer to the problem).
Stress is disruptive if your child spends his nights mulling instead of resting (misuse of energy). It is harmful if it persists after the exam and if your teenager remains anxious until the results are achieved (stress is no longer necessary).
