Taiwanese researchers have just published a study on the online edition of the Journal of
teenager health, pointing fingers
Internet. According to them, users with a strong dependence on the web, would be more violent than others.
Of the 9,405 Taiwanese medical school students surveyed, 13% of female students and 32% of students had violent behavior last year. On the other hand, among the addicted students, the numbers are more important. Indeed, 37% of them would be concerned.
For the researchers, these signs are significant and clearly indicative of the violent nature of
Internet on young people.
For the Taiwanese team, "playing online games, playing video games and visiting sex games can provide
teens opportunities to experiment with aggressive behaviors followed by positive outcomes such as group identification, playing the role of a hero or winning victories. "
The results of this study are, however, moderated by Brad Bushman, professor of psychology at the University of Michigan. According to him, the study does not allow us to say that
Internet causing violent behavior. He even poses two hypotheses: "either the use of
Internet makes people violent, violent people use more
Internet than others. "He even goes so far as to think that" the less social people spend a lot of time on
Internet and can not resolve conflicts other than through violence. "
