The brains of women do not resist hunger!

Do not tell me it's not true ...
So like that, our brain can not handle the feeling of hunger? An American study would have shown that a man's brain would be better able to control the urge to eat than ours. This study used brain imaging of brains of both sexes for this purpose. The results are published in the online journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, prepared by researchers at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, US Energy Division, to be more specific.

That's why we have more trouble losing weight ... These results could also explain the typically feminine nibbling cravings, or, more importantly, the differences in rates of bulimia and obesity men and women.

The lead author of the study is Gene-Jack Wang, an imaging scientist at Brookhaven. this researcher points out that "the results could help us understand the neurobiological mechanisms against the ability to regulate food consumption, and to create new pharmacological modes or other interventions, to help people regulate their diet and maintain a healthy diet." healthy weight ". A very serious study therefore, and which aims to help people.

Three scanners
Before participating in the study, the volunteers all cited their favorite food product. The research team then did three scans, at three different times, of the brain activity of 13 women and 10 men. Before the scans, the volunteers fasted for 20 hours.

The three scans were performed under different conditions. the first consisted in showing and making the favorite food of the participants, who tasted a mouthful (what a torture ...). For the second scanner, the conditions were the same but the researchers asked the volunteers to refuse the attractive offer. The third was a control scanner, where volunteers were not stimulated.

In addition, what is all the more painful is that for each scanner, the volunteers described their feeling of hunger and their desire to eat. These responses and brain activity were compared to each other by the researchers.

Depending on the stimuli, different brain areas were lit, depending on the sex of the person. When asked to suppress their desire to eat, men and women reported less hunger and less interest in food. But in women, brain activity has not subsided, unlike humans!

Still the fault of hormones ...
The researchers assume that the mechanisms behind this difference are due to estrogen, but more research is needed to be certain. Other studies have shown that hormones help regulate diet, weight and fat distribution.

The study did not take into account the possible influences of the menstrual cycle - a factor that must be studied, according to one of the researchers, Nora Volkow. "The menstrual cycle can play a key role in the receptivity of the reward and the successful cessation of smoking, so its role in suppressing brain activity related to food stimulation deserves more research."
