The bride laid bare
Nikki Gemmell put in this book so much of herself that, to preserve her anonymity at its first edition, in Australia, she had to resort to incredible stratagems: she made believe to her readers that the manuscript had been sent by the mother of the author, formally unknown, and who had disappeared in the meantime. It must be said that she goes far in her argument.
She explains the failure of her marriage, the syrupy slump into which she has locked herself, and the lack of charm, in general, that daily life can cause. The result is particularly harsh and moving, because each one can recognize, in a certain way, flanges of his own misfortunes. Writes as if it were a "Guide to the married contemporary style ", the style greatly helps immersing in the story, which incites even more to identify with the author.
For the record, we know today that the author is called Nikki Gemmell thanks to the success of her novel: Australian journalists have hunted her down and managed to find her identity. And her exit from the shadows has apparently gone well, since she still lives with her husband and children.
