The first baby appointment at the doctor: how is it?

Your baby was examined by the pediatrician at the hospital where he was born and an exit exam was performed between 5e and the 10e day after birth. A first appointment will be established by you towards the first month of baby.

The curve of weight, body growth and head circumference of your baby will be established. Whether you are breastfeeding or not, a baby's weight gain and growth is a guarantee that he is eating well. If during the first 4 days it is normal for a baby to lose up to 10% of its weight, the curve must rise in the first week.

The frequency of appointments with the pediatrician must be, in addition to any medical condition annex, once a month during the first 6 months. Then a review every three months will be sufficient until 12 e baby month. You will get a second health certificate at 9 e month.

The vaccination takes place during these appointments. A calendar can be found in your child's health record.

Prevention
is one of the objectives of these medical visits. The doctor will prescribe vitamin D to avoid any risk of rickets, it will tell you how to sleep baby to limit the risk of sudden death of the infant.

First aid
that you will bring to your baby will be explained to you: how to feed your baby, which childcare material to choose, what to do in case of fever, how to react to crying, how to check the contents of diapers, how to relieve stomach pain ...

Our advice
The medical follow-up can be carried out by a general practitioner, a pediatrician or a doctor of the PMI consultation (Maternal and Infant Protection) who can examine your child until 6 years old.
