From this period, this first name has become popular, thanks to Uncle Sam who is still today an iconic, allegory of the United States. Indeed, the origin of Uncle Sam goes back to the War of 1812. When the soldiers of the base of Troy, a state of New York, received crates containing food marked "US", they named with humor the initials in "Uncle Sam" in honor of the supplier named Samuel Wilson.
