What is fair trade in fashion?

These are brands that choose to produce their collection:

· In respect of the environment: choice of natural raw materials such as linen, bamboo, rubber, cotton grown without pesticides.
· By proposing correct working conditions to their employees: fair remuneration, social security cover, refusing to employ children, good hygiene and safety conditions.
· By returning part of their margin to their supplier to help them in their development and in the acquisition of additional skills.

what is the cotton organic ?

It's a cotton grown without fertilizers or pesticides. The cotton is then processed without chemical treatment and only dyes free of heavy metals are used. Control and certification are provided by rigorous organizations, such as SKAL International.


Brands that get involved

The niche of ethical fashion is very fashionable. today the consumer is willing to pay 10% more for a T-shirt if it comes from Fair Trade *.

Stella Mac Cartney
The designer is recognized as much for her exemplary career in the world of fashion as for her commitment to the environment and ethics. Stella supports the PETA animal welfare organization and therefore refuses to work with leather and fur.
For her collaboration with the H & M brand, she designed a T-shirt in cotton organic vegetable dye, of which 25% of the sale will be donated to foundations for the benefit of animal welfare.
Chosen by Adidas to make a line of sportswear ("Adidas by Stella Mac Cartney")
Stella has selected for some parts of the winter 06 collection, bamboo fiber.

Edun
Created in spring 2005 by Bono (U2), his wife Ali Hewson and Rogan Gregory (designer), the brand aims to produce fashionable clothes in developing countries to create jobs. Edun ensures the good working conditions of the workers and respect for the environment at the place of manufacture.

Misericordia
These sportwears clothing contributes to the economic, social and cultural development of two slums in Lima, Peru. The brand offers fair and well-paying jobs to people living below the poverty line. Employees benefit from health insurance, a pension fund and are paid over fourteen months. For this winter, the brand has chosen to develop its style and range to position itself more as a reference in fashion.

Veja
Can not talk about fair fashion without mentioning the famous Veja sneakers. Made since 2004 in Brazil in cooperatives that respect the rights of workers and with natural materials, the canvas is in cotton bio and natural rubber sole.

The brand claims its commitment to the environment by developing mini-collections of T-shirts made of natural materials such as linen or bamboo, or cotton organic. Tudo Bom?
TUDO BOM?, ("How are you?" In Portuguese), is a trendy and colorful clothing line. These are made by a group of ten seamstresses from Cascatinha, a modest neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. At the beginning of 2005, just one year after its creation, the financial results made it possible to finance up to 90% of employees' social security contributions.

After 200,000 t-shirts marketed after one year of partnership with the Max Havelaar association, the mail order maker continues its collaboration on its 2006 summer catalog by dedicating two pages to the cotton fair.
