The true story: In 1996, the serial killer John Joubert is executed in the United States. This young soldier had murdered thirteen years earlier three children in the States of Maine and Nebraska, leaving on the bodies of his victims traces of bites. It is this fact that gave Alex Kava the idea of his first novel.
The fictionalized version: The body of a young boy has just been discovered in the cold of Platte City, a small town in Nebraska. Not only is his body marked with strange scars, but a cross, pieces of rope, and fabric are found nearby. Police chief Nick Morelli, a notorious playboy, is going to get help from a profileuse, Maggie O'Dell.
The strength of this thriller ofAlex Kava is to put in scene a Copycat, rather than a Serial Killer: that is to say a killer who will copy the murders of another one.
