The benefits of speech therapy: are the results still there?

"In most cases, yes, but not always as much as the patients would like ... For simplicity, we can say that for all that is the order of the delay, we get very good results. postponed, the rest tend to follow.

The key word: compensation
In the case of disorders, it is more complex. This is called a structural disorder. Cognitive structures (learning structures) are different, so children suffer for life. We do not cure dyslexia or dysphasia, we compensate them, we circumvent the difficulties, we teach the patient to use other paths, to tame the disorder. In this case, the key word is compensation.

Notable progress
So the results come, yes, but not in twenty sessions. These are often very long rehabilitations, in which we will take breaks, then resume when the school requirements have increased and the child will feel the need for a new boost. With an adapted work and a patient who understands his disorder, who is informed and actor of his reeducation, one arrives all the same with good results.

Finally, there are as many different re-educations as different patients and speech therapists. What works with one does not necessarily work with the other. The human brain remains such a mystery that it is difficult to assess in advance the impact that rehabilitation will have. But in any case, the process is always positive. "
