Smoking a lot affects a person's genes, even long after stopping smoking.
tobacco. This is revealed by an article published by the very serious scientific journal
Nature.According to the authors of this work, researchers at the Cancer Research Center in Vancouver, Canada, their discovery could explain the fact that the increase in the risk of lung cancer is persistent among the old
smokingfor a long time.
When a
smoking stop the
cigarette, his body begins to gradually eliminate the damage of the
tobacco. However, the authors of the study explain that, contrary to popular belief, the "healing" of the body is never total. For example, the heart health of a
smoking returns quickly to normal, but the risk of getting lung cancer or suffering from emphysema remains high for decades.
The study consisted of following the health of eight
smoking and twelve former smokers who had stopped
cigarette from 1 to 32 years old. According to their observations, the expression of 124 genes would not return to normal after several decades. The proteins produced by many of these genes are thought to be associated with lung cancer.
However, Dr. Raj Chari, who led the study, points out that "stopping smoking reduces the risk of illness." The judgment of
tobacco therefore remains very strongly advised.
In France, 14.9 million people smoke, and 100 billion
cigarettes are smoked each year.
