The passenger, a sincere and heavy story

Production : Eric Caravaca
Actors: Julie Depardieu, Eric Caravaca, Vincent Rottiers
Released March 22

From the first minutes, the tone is given: Thomas, who has just learned the suicide of his brother Richard, is called to recognize the body. He will then move around, and until the end of movie, an incurable melancholy. Which is, moreover, less due to the death of his elder than to the painful memories of what he was going through with him.

Thomas then returns to his hometown, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. The hotel where he lives is run by the ex-girlfriend of his brother, Jeanne. Knowing that she still loves him, even though he has been fleeing for several years, he decides to hide Richard's death and therefore his own identity. In this hotel, he also befriends Lucas, a teenager half deaf, collected by Jeanne on the death of his parents, who is depressed in his small town lost by the sea.

Treated with heavy slowness, this movie multiplies the poignant subjects, even disturbing. The rendering, extremely sad, is disturbing and truly sincere, even if the game of actors (rather flat) is not always credible.
