With "The Break", the romantic comedy takes a new turn

Director: Peyton Reed
Scenario: Jeremy Garelick, Jay Lavender
Actors: Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Aniston
Released on June 21st

Oh, if all the stories of a couple could unfold like in romantic comedies! In these fictions, despite some pecks (rather healthy, by the way), love always triumphs and, in the end, we fall into each other's arms ... Only in the real world each fight is a step towards separation. And when it happens, it is often irreversible.

It is from this observation that Vince Vaughn drew the idea of this film, which he asked Peyton Reed to realize. Thus, Gary and Brooke (Jennifer Aniston), following a dispute of nothing (more due to weariness than a real problem of dishes), decides to separate. The problem: neither of them wants to give up the apartment to the other. In this climate, no reconciliation is possible, and their proximity will only result in moving them further away.

From such a synopsis, to be able to produce a comic work while remaining credible did not have to be most obvious. However, the authors of The Rupture have succeeded. This is thanks to a few caricatures in the secondary characters (respective family-in-law, mutual friends, etc.) and a few twisted misfits, such as when Brooke invites his new boyfriend to dinner to make Gary jealous, and that the two men become buddies in front of a video game. An informative film, to know how not to break up your relationship (or at least do it smoothly).
