H1N1: A study to determine people at risk

A national study of 1,000 households will begin in late September to determine the categories of people for whom influenza A could be dangerous. This is what researchers from the institutes "Microbiology and Infectious Diseases" and "Public Health" announced today. Three vaccine trials will also be conducted on at-risk populations. Other tests will be carried out on pregnant women to better understand why they develop particularly complications due to influenza AT.

Pregnant women will therefore have priority in the vaccination order against virus H1N1, just like infants.

Indeed, the High Council of Public Health (HCSP) recommends a targeted vaccination. The first to be given the vaccine against influenza A will be the health, medico-social and rescue staff. Then, it will be the turn of the "pregnant women from 2th quarter, the entourage of infants under 6 months and infants aged 6 to 23 months with risk factor " to be vaccinated according to the order of the HCSP. Follow the elderly, children and finally, adults.

However, some health professionals are already questioning the safety of the vaccine, manufactured in a hurry, and possible side effects. Some even fear a risk to public health.

The government has ordered 94 million doses of vaccine and will determine its vaccination strategy within a fortnight.
