Mixed couple: the opinion of an expert

Your definition of the mixed couple?
It is a couple who lives married or not, with confessional and sometimes cultural differences.

What motivates a mixed couple to form?
There are no rules. However, some individuals would be more predisposed because they have always been in contact with foreign cultures, including traveling. They are also people who are open to the world. This choice can also be made in reaction to families perceived as too classic.

What are the main difficulties this couple faces?
The judgment of the family. The moment of presentation to parents is often a crucial moment. Colleagues but also friends can be so reluctant to this union. They will often warn them about the problems they will have to overcome. But the main difficulty lies within the couple. Because often a mixed couple does not have the same approach of the family, the gastronomy, and simply of the life.

What can they bring each other?
It is a real chance to discover another culture, to learn another language. The layout of the house, the education of the children and even the funeral rites are opportunities to exchange.

Exactly, does the arrival of a child upset the balance of a mixed couple?
Of course. The arrival of a child raises many questions, and this since the announcement of pregnancy: which religion? what name? It is when the child appears that the shock of cultures can be painful.

What is society's view of this couple?
There is a real evolution since about twenty years. Today, we have more opportunities to meet people of different faiths through school, hobbies and work. The society is therefore rather benevolent with regard to these couples.

Is a mixed couple more likely to last?
Mixed couples are more fragile than so-called "traditional" couples, they are more exposed to breaking. About 1 in 2 separates because they face problems that other couples do not meet.
