School orientation: what course after the baccalaureate?

In the final year, many young people are still lost at the time of orientation, especially because of the multitude of choices and opportunities available to them.
As early as September, the high school student is invited to visit his institution's Information and Orientation Center (CIO) to read job descriptions, find out about the right course of study ... Youth Information Centers (CIDJ) are also full of useful documentation for guidance.

Contact schoolsDiscussing with school principals and going to student lounges can be a great help in fine-tuning a choice and getting a clearer view of what's happening in the name-laden, but sometimes disappointing, courses. Some questions to ask:school or does college require internships? If so, are they provided or is it for the student to find a business?

If your teen is a little lost, help him refocus on his strengths and interests. If he likes commerce, it's useless to go and clutter the benches of the psycho college, always very popular. Ditto for languages. If your daughter wants to be an English teacher, do not bother advising her to integrate Applied Foreign Languages, a course focused on the world of business and not on education.

Short or long courses?

Since 2004, the university no longer offers a DEUG, master's degree, DEA or DESS, but licenses, masters and doctorates. The first degree certifies 3 years of study, the master is obtained 5 years after the baccalaureate and the doctorate on average 8 years later.

Upon entering the faculty, the student chooses the way he wants to give his degree. The professional license makes it possible to integrate a company whereas the general license leads the student towards a master. The master's degree is divided into two: master research to lead the young person to a doctorate or professional master to prepare him for the world of business. The doctorate brings the student to a research profession.

Your child is in a hurry to finish school? In this case, advise him to integrate a DUT or a BTS. They are accessible after a baccalaureate and sanction two years of study. Their course is accompanied by internships in companies and practical exercises for an immediate entry on the market of the job.

IF your teen is cautious about integrating the world of jobit is better to advise him to go to university or to prepare competitions through a preparatory class in order to integrate a large school. The schools some of them are for certain accessible directly after the baccalaureate or after a license or a master, usually on file and on contest.

Note: students must register and note their wish list before the end of March on the Admission-postbac.fr website. But some schools are not integrated in this procedure. Learn about the registration and the dates of the competition to prepare the post-bac as calmly as possible.
