The Happy City or the absurdity of modern times

August 16th, Benoit Duteurtre will deliver to the public its vision of modern times, at once comic, sarcastic and very pessimistic, in a counter-utopia named The Happy City. The book and its author arise as heirs of the masters of the genre that are Orwell and before him Jonathan Swift.
The action takes place in the West, in the near future. Town Park is a residential area owned by a company called the Company. Residents bathe in comfort and safety, at the price of worshiping a missing singer named Bill and disguising themselves to play a role in the scenery of the neighborhood.
The hero of Benoit Duteurtre is screenwriter for television and disciple of Guy Debord. He initially opposed the Town Park project and then let himself be seduced to become desperately dependent on the system. But the company is preparing to undergo an insurmountable crisis, like the fate of this former rebel.
Music critic for Marianne and host on France Musique, Benoit Duteurtre has already published several novels Parisian gaiety, Misunderstandings or Travel in France, awarded the Prix Médicis in 2001.
