The name of the day: Samuel

Two books in the Bible retrace Samuel's life

The story of Samuel is written in two books of the Hebrew Bible, the Old Testament. From Hebrew "shemuel", which means "his name is God", the first name Samuel first, then, is that of a prophet of the Jewish people, who appointed the first two kings of Israel, Saul and David. We find Samuel in the Koran, also as a prophet. As for Roman Catholics and Orthodox, they also celebrate Samuel, August 20th.

Samuel, a common name

That said, first name Samuel fell into disuse in Christian Europe, before resurfacing among the Protestants of Great Britain and America in the sixteenth century. Forgot again, Samuel returned to fashion only in the 1970s until it spread widely and was often ranked, including in 2010, in the Top 50 first names French with that year 1827 newborns who adopted it. Classic and current, Samuel is also a first name young, with an average age of people so named 26 years old.

Samuel: men of passions and great causes

Power and authority emerge from Samuel, man of power born to command. Courageous, dynamic, but also generous, Samuel loves action and rigor especially when it comes to fighting for causes that are important to him. We also say children wearing the first name Samuel that they are passionate and sensitive. But beware of their anger: they may be susceptible and docility is certainly not their first quality!

Famous Samuel

Numerous are the personalities who wore or wear the first name Samuel, with in the first place, of course, the Irish writer Samuel Beckett. But we can also mention the French actor and director Samuel Benchetrit, the American comedian Samuel L. Jackson, the French Samuel Le Bihan and one of the most famous journalists of the PAF, Samuel Etienne.
