"West Side Story" celebrates 50 years at Théâtre du Châtelet

Musical comedy West Side Story premiered in 1957 by Stephen Sondheim (lyrics), Leonard Bernstein (music), Arthur Laurents (libretto) and directed by Jerome Robbins premiered on the famous Broadway stage on September 26, 1957 and was performed by 750 times.
 
In order to mark the event, West Side Story tour in Europe, and give 50 performances at Théâtre du Châtelet November 2007 to 1st January 2008.
 
The show in two acts is directed by Joey McKneely and will respect the original choreography of Jerome Robbins, 94 years old this year, who oversees the progress of this West Side Story 2007. McKneely should bring his own personal touch by speeding up the tempo slightly and strengthening the urban side of the sets.
 
The recording of this new performance, with the voices of Hayley Westenra and Vittorio Grigolo, is available on CD since 5 November (Universal). The album is the first reprint since Bernstein's 1984 recording.
