What is sleepwalking?

If you see a sleepwalker, act gently. Take him to his bed with all the care possible because he is not aware of where he is: near a staircase, near a window ...

If you engage in dialogue with him, he may even get angry. If you wake him up suddenly, he can have a brutal reaction of seizure, even flight, without being aware of the danger in which he may put himself.

During deep sleepIn the first two hours after falling asleep, sleepwalking is most likely to hit our sleeper. If sleepwalking is not dangerous in itself, it demonstrates a disruption of short brain waves. This may be temporary, in the child for example, and heals spontaneously after a while, especially during adolescence.

The causes Somnambulism can be diverse: stress, lack of sleep, migraines, fever, puberty, psychotropic drugs, alcohol and drugs.

The treatment Somnambulism will depend on the cause. In children (but in adults too!), It is good to limit movies, video games and computer before bedtime. Decreasing stress like avoiding hassle is always a good way to avoid seizures.

Doctors, in more serious cases, may prescribe with limited success benzodiazepines, Diazepam or Lorazepam which act by suppressing the sleep deep. Hypnosis would be one of the most effective methods. If sleepwalking is a psychological disorder and puts the person at risk, it is advisable to talk to a psychiatrist.

Our advice
Suddenly waking a sleepwalker is not dangerous in itself but can lead to a violent or unconsciously dangerous reaction.
