Brand Saga: The Schweppes Story

At the end of 18th century, Johan Jacob Schweppe, Swiss jeweler, wants change in his life. He discovered with astonishment that Joseph Priestley invented a method for dissolving carbon dioxide in water. Inspired, an idea comes to mind, that of loading water into carbon dioxide. In 1783 Johan Jacob Schweppe finally managed to finalize the first machine to gasify water.
Initially, the water was intended for medical use. His discovery allows him to develop the Schweppe's soda water recommended by doctors for digestive problems. This soda so successful that the brand Schweppes take off.
 

Schweppes innovates
In 1831, Schweppes becomes the official supplier of the Royal Family of England. A few years later, the brand provides the Duchess of Kent and Princess Victoria. The soft drink becomes popular. At the end of 19th century, Schweppes begins to develop in Europe. Plants are opening in Australia and the United States. The industrial revolution grows Schweppes to renew his drink. As early as 1835, new varieties are available with Schweppes Aerated Lemonade, Indian Tonic or Ginger Ale. These new tastes make Schweppes a famous brand all over the world.
Today, Schweppes is part of the Orangina group and is part of soft drinks now unavoidable.
