Child safety: car seats not always suitable for toddlers!

The three little blond heads (they were really blond) were gesticulating and laughing in the backseat. Incredible but true especially when you know that the child safety is important at home, at theschool but also in the car. Unfortunately it was not an isolated case. You should know that almost one in three parents does not systematically attach their child to a suitable car seat despite all the road safety advertising campaigns.

Britax Römer proposes to take stock of French practices in the field of child car safety. The results of this study show that parents still need to make progress in child safety. While most parents use a child-friendly car seat during a car trip, 13% of those surveyed do so only occasionally or never. Not good ! To the question: do you always use a seat adapted for the child when driving, the answer is:

- 71% of respondents answered systematically,
- 11% said most of the time,
- 2% use it from time to time
- 11% say they have never done it.

It should be remembered that an unsecured child in a car seat is seven times more likely to be seriously injured or killed in the event of an accident. Risk behavior that occurs with less frequent use of the car while for everyday use, the use of a child car seat is almost a reflex for 74% of them.

To the question: Do you know the ISOFIX system? The answer is the system ... what? In France, there is still a lack of knowledge of the ISOFIX system. 70% of respondents never heard about it.

Let's go back to the ISOFIX system

Fourteen years ago, Britax Römer and Wolkswagen launched the first car seat equipped with the ISOFIX system. This innovation has since become a European standard. But this system remains unknown. 19% of respondents know it, 11% have already heard about it but do not know what it is precisely and 70% have never heard of it.

ISOFIX ... quèsaco?

It is a system that revolves around two fasteners riveted to the seat of a vehicle. The two hooks of the car seat are clipped to these clips. A third anchor point (back strap or support leg) is used to lock the seat in rotation. Attached to the chassis of the vehicle, the car seat is fully secured.
It should be noted that this anchoring technique minimizes installation errors and maximizes the effectiveness of protection thanks to a rigid connection between the child seat and the vehicle. So do your turn to convey this information for the safety and well-being of our children during the journeys in family.

This survey, which was conducted in partnership with the Harris Interactive polling institute, was conducted online from June 24 to 27. Sample of 1015 parents from a representative sample of French people aged 18 and over, from the Harris Interactive acress panel. Quota method and adjustment applied to the following variables: sex, age, socio-occupational category and region of the interviewee.
