Discover Nordic walking

How is Nordic walking different from conventional walking?
It is a more dynamic, more athletic walk that works 90% of the muscles, as well as those of the arms, chest, back and those of the legs. Advancing by pressing the sticks can lengthen the pace, straighten the back and tone the march. The cardiovascular and pulmonary systems are well activated, the muscles properly fed with oxygen and the body better rid of toxic waste.

Does the use of sticks require a particular technique?
Yes, walking with specific poles requires a little learning. At first, it is already essential to equip with good sticks. They must imperatively be fixed in carbon fiber and fiberglass. It's a flexible material, but it does not break. Unlike aluminum that can break if you do a little too strong support. Do not take retractable sticks, again too fragile.

What are the most from a physical point of view?
As I said before, it is an excellent sport for the cardiovascular system and complete muscle level. Nordic walking makes you sweat and therefore causes good elimination. You can spend up to 40% more energy than during a Sunday jog for example.
In addition the stick relieves 30% joint pressure on the ankles, hips and lower back. You can really enjoy yourself without hurting yourself.
The effort is better distributed and you will have less risk of body aches.

Can we practice Nordic walking on all soils?
Yes, for bitumen you can adapt a little rubber at the end of sticks, but personally I find it more enjoyable and more fun to practice Nordic walking on soft ground (sand, paths, undergrowth ...). With poles you can climb climbs and overcome obstacles.

Renaud Roussel's advice for the material:
Always use poles specifically designed for this activity. Beware of those sold in major sports stores.
My favorites are those of the French Federation of NW, the "One Way", the strap is very good, the perfect tip and the value for money unbeatable. About 60? the pair.
Otherwise the "Exel" are very good, a little more rigid, I recommend at most 80 kilos. From 70 to 110? the pair. "
A good pair of sneakers will be fine, do not put up shoes to leave the ankle free.
Regarding the material and the courses, you can inquire by consulting the website of the French Federation of Nordic Walking.
Do not forget to drink well for the duration of the walk and think of taking a cereal bar in case of craving.
