Family: towards a status of "co-parent"

That's why Nora Berra, Secretary of State for Health, decided to reach out to families single parents and same-sex couples. In an interview this week with the daily Libération, she said she was in favor of creating a status of "co-sponsor" in favor of families single parents and "same-sex couples" ... for one purpose only: to better protect the education of children.

"My concern is children, the question is no longer whether we accept same-sex parenting, we can not make a denial of reality (...) I think co-parent status provides a satisfactory answer. This concerns families lone parents where there is only one living and recognized parent, couples where one spouse has disappeared or same-sex couples, "said Nora Berra." The other parent must be able to sign documents for school, having custody etc ... and, if he wishes to transmit his heritage "says Nora Berra, wishing" a flexible device to share parental authority ".

The status of "co-parent" would be "inalienable": "when one chooses to be, one is for life" but it does not concern all families recomposed: "the status is thought for children who have only one legal and living parent". Asked if she is in favor of adopting a child by a same-sex couple, Ms. Berra responds by taking the case of two women "it does not bother me" but "as a legal mother for one and cope for the other ".

Today, unless he adopts the child or obtains a delegation of parental authority, the spouse of the biological parent has no rights over the child. And to adopt a child together, and therefore share parental authority, a couple must be married, effectively closing the door for same-sex couples.

UMP deputies presented mid-July 30 proposals to promote "the family sustainable ", by demanding to give priority to adoption to heterosexual couples or single singles who are related to the child, when their parents are dead.
