Making cosmetics at home: interview of a specialist
What is Ethik Concept?
It's a concept store based on ethics. For now, we only have one shop. It is located at the Forum des Halles in Paris (see address below) but we will soon work one in the 18th borough.
Organic and fair trade cosmetics are sold. On average, every 15 days, a workshop is held to manufacture natural cosmetics.
Not to mention our ready-to-wear sector where we try to promote young designers from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Why did you start these workshops?
It was interesting that consumers understand a little better the content of the products they buy, know how to read the labels. This is called "consum'action", a way to consume more intelligently. Beyond the instructive aspect, there is of course the playful aspect ... It is very amusing to make its day cream, its hair butter or its shampoo ... The customers come to the workshops especially for that , finally.
How do you make your products in your workshop?
The workshop costs 30 euros. The price includes the manufacture of two beauty products but also:
-the organic raw material such as essential oils, pigments for dyes, perfumes ...
containers, that is to say pots or airtight bottles
-the loan of utensils: a scale, a thermometer, a hot plate, a bowl, a spoon, a pan ...
This is a great value because we still leave with two bios products, know-how and fun and more.
If the price is relatively low it is to reach a maximum of customers, even modest ... Ethics remains our key word!
What is the difference between your workshops and the simple remedies of grandmothers?
The remedies of grandmothers are in a logic of care but we are here to have fun while caring. We play with colors, textures and perfumes when we make a product. While an egg mask, even if it heals the hair, it does not smell very good!
And then we use a lot of essential oils that should not be used without the advice of an expert. An overdose can in some cases be dangerous or deadly ... Attention therefore to the recipes found on the net ... Some can be fanciful; do not risk it!
After the workshop, can we easily remake the same cosmetics at home?
Of course. We give you the exact recipe at the end of the workshop, just for that purpose! You just have to buy the organic raw material yourself. It is not always easy and sometimes expensive depending on the suppliers ... That is why we have introduced a reduced rate on these products for the customers who made the workshop at home.
