Philippe Goddin delivers a biography of Hergé, the creator of Tintin

On the occasion of the centenary of the birth ofHergé, Philippe Goddin, considered a specialist of the creator of Tintin or famous "hergéologue", presents a biography of more than 1,000 pages by the famous Belgian comics author. Hergé Lines of life (Moulinsart), released on November 9, is the result of thirty years of research and analysis.


To realize this biographical sum, Philippe Goddin had access to the personal and family archives ofHergé. He peeled correspondence, notebooks, but also photo albums, also collecting many testimonials about the creator of Tintin.

The biographer gives many elements of answer on the personality ofHergé and tries to put it back in its historical, political and artistic times. The archivist describes Hergé like a tormented man, who records his moods in his Notebook of dreams. according to Philippe Goddin, Tintin in Tibet is the most personal and intimate work ofHergé insofar as he projects himself into his characters.

Philippe Goddin has published several books on Hergé and his work. Former Secretary General of the Studios Hergé, he is notably at the origin of the publication of Chronology of a work, a document in 5 volumes on the work ofHergé.

The centenary of the birth ofHergé was celebrated this year in France and Belgium. In Paris, an exhibition dedicated to the creator of Tintin took place at the Pompidou Center from December 2006 to February 2007.

Born Georges Remi, Hergé started writing in the 20's for different media. In 1928 he became editor-in-chief of Petit Twentieth, the youth supplement of the Catholic newspaper Twentieth century.

January 10, 1929, in the 11th issue of Petit Twentieth the first episode of Tintin in the land of the Soviets. This is the beginning of the adventures of Tintin and Snowy. His writings are being built more and more on a current political background. Hergé continues to write during the Second World War.

In 1946 he created the newspaper Tintin, springboard for many talents like Jacobs and Martin. The year 1950 sees the birth of the studio Hergé. Very quickly, Tintin becomes a global success. Cinema and advertising are tearing the phenomenon away.

Tintin embodies a reporter always accompanied by his dog Snowy. Around him, we find Captain Haddock, Professor Tournesol and the brothers Dupondt.
