On Monday, a team of British researchers warned against regular use of anti-influenza drugs in children. In the study published by the British Medical Journal, they say that Tamiflu can cause complications such as vomiting, including a risk of dehydration. Among other side effects, nightmares and insomnia have also been noticed.
The World Health Organization (WHO) responded yesterday to this investigation by stating that it concerned people with
influenza seasonal and not its variant A H1N1.
Since the appearance of
virus, WHO recommends two antivirals to treat patients with
virus of the
influenza A. This is Tamiflu and Relenza.
The UK study comes at a time when the United Kingdom is calling for systematic prescriptions for Tamiflu, which can be obtained without a prescription in this country.
In a statement, the Organization indicates that it "
continues to recommend the use of antivirals as treatments for people who are severely ill or at risk of medical complications ".
Antivirals "
should not be administered to healthy persons with mild symptoms of influenza" says the World Health Organization. She also recalls
the importance of rapidly providing antiviral treatment for severe and progressive cases, as well as for those belonging to risk groups such as pregnant women ".
For its part, France currently has 1058 confirmed or probable cases of people with
influenza A in metropolis
