The little second hand, by Michèle Lesbre

"The little troteuse" is, without a doubt, one of the most touching novels of the previous literary return. The narrator, in a race against the clock with her past, travels the country and visits houses for sale, in which she likes to spend hours and surrender to the place. She lets herself be inhabited by those spaces that belonged to other families than hers. Surrender to these fictitious memories, which could have been those of the former owners, also serves to reconnect with the thread of his own story. She tries to mourn a painful past, linked to the death of her father and the memory of her too frivolous mother.

The style is simple and moving. In the same sentence, the reader finds himself first rocked by the quiet evocations of a landscape and then, suddenly, distressed by the pangs of memories of the narrator. This story is somehow the story of life, the desire of everyone to end the nightmares of his past, to remember only the sweetness of life, and say that the reel time deserves to be completed.
