History
Berenice was worn by many queens and princesses of the Greek dynasty. We find for example Berenice II who was queen of Egypt around the year 230 BC. Mythology tells that she had promised to offer her hair to God if her husband Ptolemy III came back alive from the war. This promise came true and she offered her golden mat to the temple of Aphrodite. Unfortunately this precious trophy disappeared. To appease the anger of the king, a named astronomer Conon of Samos has named a constellation "the hair of Berenice". Subsequently, this first name has become widespread in English-speaking countries and Italy. In France, Bérénice has imposed timidly without ever being successful.
