What to garnish your library

Novel
Louis and the girl, Cécile Ladjali
This novel crosses two correspondences: one of Louis, 20, a young soldier who writes trenches of the war of 14. The other of Lorette, a young girl who lives in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés of the 50s. Their destiny , linked from afar, is traced under a magnificent pen, imaged, sensitive. This brilliant novel We revive two very distinct periods: that of the horror of war, then the luminous one of a Paris of the 50s. I liked this change of scenery, the sensitivity of the author. Through the writings of the young soldier, we perceive the First World War as one of the most atrocious, then the horror wins us more when we realize that it was not the last.

BD
Klezmer, by Johan Sfar
"Come on, let's get back to it! ... We're going back to Odessa in this starry night ... The open windows of the elegant house let Jewish music spread through the sleeping streets ... let's take advantage of this funny party Let's remember for a long time this marvelous night because that's when our musicians really became friends. "
It is on this invitation to the party that opens the second opus of Klezmer, "Happy Birthday Scylla", a whirlwind of music, shimmering colors and unlikely friendships.
With this series, the awesome Joan Sfar takes us into the history of the Jews of the East, this world almost disappeared, through a band of happy musicians. Tasty dialogues, truculent stories, very endearing characters. Joan Sfar once again proves her immense talent as a storyteller. A delight !

Novel
Dance on the ruins, by Milana Terloeva
This young Chechen tells us about the hell her country suffers, Russian repression and atrocities. One feels powerless to read these lines, so lively, so touching. But to be informed is already a lot. Read urgently not to close your eyes to what is happening to this people, whose only hope is to know themselves known to others.

Novel
Cold Blood, Truman Capote
This excellent novel relates the murder of an entire family. The story is simple, rigorous, bare, written in a perfectly neutral style. At no time does the author attempt to orient the reader or to express an opinion. And that's the strength of this book : we find ourselves alone in front of these incomprehensible and inevitable crimes. It was reissued at the release of the film Bennett Miller, which perfectly relates the genesis of this novel but especially the impact of this fact on the life of the author.

Beautiful book
John Lennon - Unfinished Music
Released for the superb exhibition held at the Cité de la Musique, this book is full of photos known to all, but also personal images, ceded by Yoko Ono. In two parts, it traces the life of John Lennon with the Beatles, then his solo journey until his assassination. It's anecdotal, touching, poignant ... well, I love it!

Novel
Babylon under the bombs, by Stéphane Mariesté
This novel amazing, written by a young author, tells the birth of a love story against the backdrop of the war in Iraq. A bit of a literary UFO I will say. The author truffle his history of reflections on writing (and art in general) and questions about the treatment of the news ... we will also have fun to recognize some media protagonists. The story is beautiful and original and the link with the audacious news. Just a flat on the style, I sometimes had a little trouble following. But for the originality, this book worth reading!

BD
Lou, The bus cemetery, by Julien Neel
I love the colors of this series. The graphic design of the author, modern, feminine, perfectly supports the story, very contemporary: a pre-teen who lives with his mother, and who is in love with Tristan, one of his friends.

Novel
American Darling, Russell Banks
Russell Banks is a committed writer ... and convincing. Through the poignant portrait of an American activist who, in the 1970s, fled to Liberia to escape the FBI, he allowed me to discover this small country in Africa (which is also seen in the Lord of War movie) and its relations with the United States. And I let myself be persuaded by this charge against neo-colonialism.
