In the 14th century, Saint Fleur, patron saint of Saint Garance, devoted her life to caring for the sick. The root of this plant is known for its red dye called "red madder". This color was long attributed to the uniforms of French soldiers from 1815 to 1915. Judging too clairvoyant the state decided to remove "red madder" clothing soldiers. After that first name was spread and was awarded in 1945, after the broadcast of Marcel Carné's film "The Children of Paradise", where one of the characters is called Garance.
