The history of sadomasochism

Formed words sadism and masochism, the first word is derived from Sade, the Enlightenment philosopher who stages sex based on suffering and humiliation. Masochism comes from Leopold Sacher-Masoch, this Austrian author who develops in one of his novels a relationship built around domination and manipulation in his quest for pleasure. In this book, The Venus in Furs, published in 1902, the narrator becomes the sex slave of a woman.

Sadomasochism can be considered a deviant practice of the sexuality even a perversion because the pleasure and sexual enjoyment is reached only after humiliating treatments where the moral and physical suffering comes into play.
In the work of Sade, a violent eroticism is exposed: a vision where the sexuality is based on immoral acts: tortures, incest, rapes ...

Yet, to a much lesser degree, traces can be found of sado-masochism in the anthology of the sexuality what is the Kama Sutra. In this book, scratching one's partner can be a source of pleasure... even if it does not go as far in the perversion as the current practices of the SM.

Today, sadomasochism has become a highly codified practice: these are rules that partners establish between themselves when they engage in DM: certain limits are set in total mutual consent.

Of course, a domineering is distinguished from a consented, dominated person. Having a penchant for the SM can be a consequence of psychological problems: a person who has been seriously traumatized as a child may develop the urge to be domineering or dominated ... to feel desire Uncontrolled submission ...

It can happen that a couple to spice up his sex life use various games that are similar to sado-masochism: handcuffs, ropes ... These games are, however, far removed from the reality of the SM world, where suffering and humiliation are essential to access pleasure and to enjoyment.
According to Freud, the anxiety of castration could explain the sadomasochism: castrate for fear of being castrated.

Or else this drift can find its origin in parental education: if parents tend to consider sex as dirty, enjoyment can only be attained after corporal punishment ... pain felt like pleasure : pinching, hot wax flow on the skin, spanking, light burns ...

The practices are diverse: bondage, sometimes scarifications, more extreme practices can include real acts of torture (marking with iron, infibulation that is to say mutilation of the genitals ...).

Various accessories can be used: boots with metal heels, combination of latex, chain, leather, whip ... The practice is scripted, with codes and a precise regulation. If the subject disobeys an order, a correction is required. The SM is part of a ceremonial and ritual specific and particular. During a SM session, the submissive can be tied to ropes and blindfolded, without knowing what treatment will be inflicted on him. He becomes a victim in the hands of his master, his executioner, and in general, he will ensure his safety within the limits.

If you are tempted by an experience, do not blindly venture into the gloomy world of the SM. Limit yourself to practicing it with someone you trust or your partner ...
